Your question

We are currently applying for a US visa for one of our employees. According to the instructions of the US authorities, an applicant must provide proof of previously issued US visas during the visa interview. It now turns out that our employee's old visas were in an old passport, which he unfortunately no longer has. Can he still attend the interview appointment at the US consulate?

Our answer

Your employee's consular interview appointment can take place regularly and should be attended in any case.

You should try your best to provide the required evidence. Even if you are unable to provide the old passport or other proof of previously issued visas, your employee can go to the visa appointment.

Your employee should be prepared for questions from the consular officers, i.e. the employee should be able to name the period for which the visa was issued or narrow it down as much as possible and be able to provide information about his stays in the United States.
